Village Of Northbrook: Precautionary Water Boil Order In Effect

On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, the Village of Northbrook experienced a loss of pressure within its water distribution system. This loss of pressure was due to several water main breaks affecting the 800 to 1500 blocks of Skokie Boulevard and the 1000 block of Sunset Ridge Road as well as malfunctioning water shut-off valves in the area. Pressure has been restored to the system; however, a Precautionary Boil Order for the Village’s water has been put into effect. This boil order will remain in effect until at least Friday, September 1. The Village is collecting water samples in the affected area to verify the safety of the water before the boil order is lifted. Once again, this precautionary boil order will remain in effect until at least Friday, September 1 or when water samples have verified as safe for normal usage.Please see these maps of the affected areas and boil order FAQ:

Residents and businesses in the affected area should not use water for drinking, cooking, washing dishes, washing hands, or brushing teeth without boiling the water for 5 minutes. Residents and businesses may instead use bottled water for these tasks. The water is safe to wash clothes in or bathe in so long as care is taken not to ingest the water. Water for fire protection is available and not impacted by the boil order. The Village will issue a “boil order lifted” letter as well as utilizing its website, social media accounts, and Northbrook Notify when the precautionary boil order is lifted.
